LIGHTHOUSE IS PASSIONATE about bringing Transformation to our Community and World. One project that has really caught our attention for 2013 is the BUILD A CITY Project in Cambodia. The goal is to actually BUILD A CITY for 6,000 people. People for Care and Learning (PCL) is leading the way in an effort to "Give HOPE" to a city and nation. PCL is partnering with the Cambodian Government to build infra-structure like electricity, plumbing with clean water, 1500 houses, grocery stores, businesses...everything needed to BUILD A CITY that will Give Hope for the future.
Lighthouse is mobilizing Kalamazoo to get involved in two ways. First, to raise funds for the BUILD A CITY Project. We are sponsoring three events and asking for individuals and families to participate. The events are as follows:
KZOO TRI 4 HOPE - May 18th, 2013
The KZOO TRI for Hope is a Sprint Triathlon for Children grades 1-5th. It will be hosted at Bronson Athletic Club. Each child is encouraged to raise a minimum of $25 for the BUILD A CITY Project. Several Sponsors (including Biggby Coffees, Cottage Inn Pizza, Break-A-Way Bikes) will help make the event awesome.
KZOO RUN 4 HOPE - June 1st, 2013
The KZOO Run 4 Hope is a 200 Mile Relay Run that will circle the City of Kalamazoo. We are asking elite and novice runners to participate in a leg of the relay race. Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $50 for the BUILD A CITY Project. Event T-shirts will be awarded to all participants!
KZOO RIDE 4 HOPE - June 29th, 2013
The KZOO Ride 4 Hope will take place on the Kal Haven Trail. There will be three different distance categories (5, 25 & 50 miles). Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $35 for the BUILD A CITY PROJECT. Prizes will be awarded to the top riders of each category.
CAMBODIA TRIP: RIDE & RUN 4 HOPE - November 24-December 3rd, 2013
In addition, Lighthouse is mobilizing a group to go to Cambodia to see the BUILD A CITY PROJECT, experience the Asian Culture, and COMPETE in a Ride & Run 4 Hope Event in Cambodia at their national monument "Angkor Wat". The Bike Race will be a 60 mile race on Saturday, November 30th followed by a 1/2 Marathon or 10K Running Race on Sunday, December 1st.
